the ups and downs and in between

Lynsey was not a happy girl, lately.

At first she was glad she didn't move in with Topher, after all. She wanted to. It was so close to happening. But Topher was so hoplessly devoted to this Ricki, which Lynsey hadn't even met yet. She didn't want to.

Honestly, she felt as if she'd been left out in the cold.

She remembered a time when she used to think Luc was her best friend. She had a feeling he didn't remember. He didn't remember how they used to hang out, play video games together. He'd watch any DVD with her, and he'd even shown her a few chords on the guitar.

Lynsey thought those were good times, but that was before college set in. They'd met in the dorm her freshman year. Actually, he was posing as someone else, kind of. He wasn't in college. She thought he might have ran away from home, actually. He never talked about it. But he never asked for much. He ate in the cafeteria, went to classes. And it was fun with him for a few weeks. Then she went to a frat party and found she needed the party life. He didn't seem to mind. After all, they were just friends. And she could see she was slumming with him. And Lynsey was above that.

Next thing she knew she was seriously dating a football player, and she'd accidentally introduced Luc to an old friend of hers, Leia. It never donned her until  a long time later they would get together. Of course, Lynsey had her own agenda back then. And somehow she felt she was in an ocean of new possibilities. Somehow, she lost Luc in all of it. Especially, when she found him a few months later with Leia. It just didn't seem possible.

Times had changed. She was selling her Jimmy Choos  on e-bay. Next would be her glorious handbag collection. She wanted to make it stop. That's when she decided she would see if Leia's extra apartment key still worked.

She'd found it deep in her bright orange HEREMES purse. It was like finding the lottery.

If it worked, then maybe she could buy some time at Leia's. Quite possibly, Luc was still paying the rent. Of course, it was a lot like living in a motel room, but then again, she did live in a studio apartment.

Now she was the one slumming. No one needed to know.
