on the edge of brilliance

Lisa would have to make a big deal about Eric coming to dinner.

"What is so special about him, El?" Lisa looked at her frustrated in Ellie's room where Ellie was trying to crochet a pink cloche for Leia's birthday that was coming up.

"Isn't he gay, anyway?" Lisa scowled.

"Shut up." Ellie didn't feel like discussing this. She wouldn't squirm if that's what her sister was after. "He's fine. We are fine. And I don't care what you think. He's coming to dinner because Mom wants him too."

Lisa gave her an evil stare as she pondered over Ellie's shelf of little crocheted rabbits and monkeys.

"Maybe you don't have to be here," Ellie suggested. "You and Geo could go somewhere." It didn't matter that Ellie sat through lunch and dinner most days with Geo who never spoke, who's hair just got longer and was perhaps even a recluse. "Does Geo even have a job?"

"He's depressed." Lisa crossed her arms, and it was the first time Ellie knew for sure when she saw the baby bump that it was true. Ellie couldn't help but stare, but went back to crocheting.

"Well, what are you going to do?"

"What do you mean?" Lisa squinted.

"I don't know, maybe you were thinking the Juno thing, perhaps." That would be a selfless act. She couldn't see her sister being like Juno from the movie who found a mother for her baby. Ellie shrugged, concentrating on her stitches.

"I have you know, that Geo knows a lot about computers, and he did really really well on this test, and he can go into the Air Force anytime he likes."

Ellie knew she was dreaming, but she nodded.

"Its twins."

Ellie's eyes lit. She could see herself screaming "NOOOOOOOOO!" Ellie took a deep breath.

"Eric's bi-sexual." Ellie said rather casually as if all her boyfriends were.
