"When were you going to tell me?" Ellie asked Eric over her cell. She'd thought about this over a long hot shower. Now she was dressed for bed. Couldn't Eric have said something? Of course, she didn't want to hear this from Kyle. Anyway, Kyle had his head stuck to a cell phone most of the trip. He hardly said anything to her. And now she knew why. Maybe he'd figured this out a while ago and didn't want to let on that he knew.

She didn't want to be mad, but she couldn't help but be bitter at the moment.

"Tell you what?" Eric was acting dumb now, she wanted to hang up on him.

"This whole thing with the living arrangements here," Ellie said. "My room! Everything!"

"I didn't feel it was my place. I knew it would happen in good time. Just didn't think your Dad would wait so long," Eric told her. "Sorry."

"I'm sorry. Its not your fault," she shook her head, no. "Do you know what happened to my house?"

"No, not really," Eric said. "Not like it burned down or anything, you know. Its still there. I guess the "For Sale" sign is still up. You want me to go with you?"

"Yeah, I'd like that."

"But can I sleep first? You need some sleep too, even if you think you don't. Is Clyde, all right?"

"Clyde?" She hadn't thought about him at all. He was still in the mini-van she supposed. She'd have to bring him in. "All right, tomorrow then."

"Good, I love you," Eric said.

"I love you too." She put away her cell then and opened the door. Clyde was patiently waiting there, stretched out on his stomach on the hard wood floor.
