Eric was famished when the got home. He'd never been so tired in his life. All those voices were getting to him. Maybe he could go into radio at this rate if he kept this up. Nico loved it. By the end they were both talking like pirates. Eric really hadn't expected that.
He supposed he'd have to wait until tomorrow to see if he passed mustard, or whatever from Ellie. She was sure they'd be calling her. He was frazzled. Kids could take a toll on you.
"Yes, I behaved." He informed his mother before she could bug him about it.
"Good, but I wanted to tell you, your father called," she said.
"Really?" That was weird. His father never called. Never. "Something happen? I don't have to call him back, do I?"
"He's flying in for you birthday." She told him then.
Eric wasn't sure if he heard her. Exactly.
"What?"
"Yes, he and your brother are coming to the States."
No he really felt like spewing a mouth full of fucking words, but he didn't. He held his breath for a second. He scowled. "What on earth for?"
"It's your birthday, silly. Eighteen." Her mother smiled.
"Yeah, I know, but-" But he was thinking of getting away with Ellie. Hopefully. He didn't know what they'd do or where they'd go, but hopefully sex would be involved. Maybe even a weekend of it. If only. He could dream, couldn't he? They could take a train ride in the middle of the night and end up in Denver. Sweet. Totally grownup and sex on a train. Who could ask for more?
Well, he knew that wasn't going to happen. But still they'd do something. Go to a top notch restaurant in the Old Market. More fun in a horse drawn carriage. Oh, he was thinking it again. It could be so damn HAWT. So much for that.
"What are we going to do? What's his name anyway? I don't want to spend time with him." Yes, maybe there was a slight resentment that his Dad had a middle schooler to spend time with and he never had with him. But it didn't matter. He was fine without, either of them. "Why didn't you tell them not to come? You were suppose to tell them not to come!" He felt like shouting about it now.
"Eric." Her mother looked at him with disappointment. "Your brother has been asking about you, you know."
"He's hardly a brother, now is he? Please, mum, call him back tell him to get his money back. I'd just rather not." He shook his head, no. Things were going so swell tonight. Then this.
"Your father says he and Ian will be here in a few days, they can't get there money back," she said.
"They aren't staying here, now are they?" Bitterness was all Eric could feel.
"I suppose they could. The couch does make out into a bed, you know."
"Splendid." This irked Eric so. He so wanted to smash his hand in the wall or at least kick his bedroom door in. He gritted his teeth then. He felt his cell vibrating in his pocket then. Couldn't he just be left alone on his birthday? Why couldn't his father send money like most folks did?
well that just sucks i wonder what will happen next....
ReplyDeleteIn a way, I think it probably feels better to be forgotten on your birthday than to be remembered by somebody that you don't want to remember.
ReplyDeleteIf that makes sense. Nice post.
oh poor eric, just what he needed to hear after a long hard day. :(
ReplyDeleteI am loving this "eric perspective" stuff, it is truly awesome and well-written. you are such a wonderful writer to be able to write in the pov of a male and make it seem so real.
I love these characters more and more every time I read. Excellent! :)
Thank you SO MUCH for your kind comment :)
ReplyDeleteAbout Jamie Campbell Bowar, did he said why he left to Africa? Is he volunteering or something? Maybe just vacation. Thanks on the note.
Wow, you watched Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist twice? I assume it must be good. However, I checked imdb.com and there doesn't seem to be a release date here in Portugal... Too bad, I like Michael Cera and Kat Dennings. Oh well. It's Portugal - I'm used to these kinds of things not happening.
Sorry I haven't finished going through older posts yet, but I'm working on it - and really enjoying it. You're real good! I can't wait to get to the part where it switches to Eric's points of view (that's what happened, right?)
Hopefuly this weekend, because then I'll have exams every week.
Have a great week yourself :)
Hi there-poor Eric-I hope when they come they all manage to have some sort of bonding and good time.
