It had been a rather unexpected Easter, Amanda supposed.
First it was dinner with her relatives over at her grandparents. Lots of laughter yet religious stuff, and then an Easter egg hunt. Of course, it was even better that Kyle was with her during all the hoopla of ham and eggs, deviled eggs, boiled eggs and candy eggs.
He learned first hand just what sort of family she had. She guessed.
It was loud. Naturally. And exhausting. She couldn't wait to get back to the house that afternoon.
"I think I would have had an excruciating headache if I'd been there a second longer." She so needed a nap. Of course, somebody was wide awake and kicking like crazy.
Kyle couldn't help but smile.
"I don't think you're going to get a nap," he said.
"I know." Amanda kept staring at her stomach wiggle as she sat back on the couch in her livingroom. She yawned then and looked at the mess about. All of it was Derrick's. She'd hoped he'd gotten the hint to put all his guitars and everything in his room. Everyday when he played he had a small crowd of tweens watching him from the big livingroom window. He kept the curtains closed now. It didn't stop him from practicing. But at the moment he was off with his cousins at a golf range.
"So how many kids do you really want?" Kyle asked.
She just looked at him out of the corner of her eye. "Just the one will be plenty. My grandmother had eight kids. My Mom had three. I think one is enough."
"I thought you wanted a big family," he said.
"Well, I've got this one and its big enough," she sighed.
Just then the doorbell rang. Amanda looked at Kyle.
"Were you expecting someone?" He asked. Amanda shook her head.
Kyle went to get the door. She followed as if she guessed she should in case it was a neighbor looking for one of those little girls who loved to watch her brother through the window. But it wasn't one of them.
It was this stringy haired young woman with a little strawberry blond little girl.
"Is Dan home?" She asked.
"Um, he's downstairs." Amanda sighed. "I'll go get get him." She went in the kitchen then and yelled downstairs to him.
"What?" He just looked up the stairs as if he wasn't coming.
"You better get yourself up here," Amanda said. "It might be important."
"Like what?" He came up from the basement with a wince.
"You'll see." She just said.
He gave her a sore look that she was no help in the matter.
She followed him around the corner, and Dan stopped in his tracks and stared at the woman who was his age.
"Darlene?"
Kyle looked at Amanda and before they new it, he went out on the front steps with her.
"Wonder what that's about?" Kyle stared back at Amanda.
"I can only think of one thing." She sighed. That little girl looked an awful lot like her family.
Hi there-uh-oh, more secrets? Oh will Dan come clean?

ReplyDeleteI'm glad you liked the photos! And yeah, the hike was pretty boiling. I was actually kind of hoping that I'd be so delirious as to see a mirage or something, that seems like it would be cool, haha. Have a good week [:
