finding each other

When Eric found Ellie at the truck-stop, he thought he might pass out from exhaustion alone. He'd driven for hours with the help the Sounds giving him energy to go on and get to the place not so far from Car Henge.

There was a lump in his throat. He didn't know what to say as he just looked at her. She looked so different. No make up. Just that silly pink Mount Rushmore T-shirt that was big enough for a mini-dress.

She was happy to see him and gave him a hug right away.

"Are you OK?" He guessed she was. Why had he even asked?

He shook Casey's hand. He'd driven her this far which was about an hour or so away from his home. At least they made the connection. Eric hadn't had to wonder around lost, looking for her. Her cell phone was not charged up.

"You did call home?"

She shook her head, no.

"Why not?" He knew her parents would be worried sick. Everyone was. "Did you call Roger or even Kyle?" He winced then.

"I will."

His stomach grumbled then.

"I ordered you a burger," Ellie said. "No onion, mayo and lots of pickles." Just then a burger and fries was set down in front of him.

Eric just smiled. He guessed he could make time to eat before they drove back.
