at breakfast

Ellie met her Mom for breakfast. It was a nice bakery in the old market. Her Mom ordered them quiche and fresh fruit only Ellie had lost her appetite. She kept thinking about Eric with Amanda. How could he? How could she?

"What's the matter?" Her mother asked.

"Nothing." Ellie looked at her blankly.

"How's that Lon?"

Ellie just stared at her. Finally she figured out she wasn't talking about the lawn. Then it came to her. He'd said he loved her, and she didn't know how to respond to that. Exactly.

"Oh," She smiled first then thought it wouldn't be right to smile. She might figure it out. Put two and two together. "Great, he's working now."

"I like him. I'm glad he's there with you and -and what's his name?"

"Roger." Ellie looked at her point blank. She could never remember his name and never thought of him actually being a male. He was just another girl to her mother.

"Yeah." She laughed as she ate mouthfuls then of the crusty quiche.

Ellie bit into a strawberry, but it didn't have any taste. This bothered her about Amanda. Should
she tell Kyle about this?

"What's the matter?" Her Mom noticed she wasn't eating. "Don't tell me you're on a diet of some kind?"

"No. uh, I found out Leia's been in an accident. She's in rehabilitation right now. I'm going to see her this morning."

Of course, her mother wanted to know about the motorcycle accident. They talked about how Leia used to be. Ellie felt like crying because Leia wasn't who she used to be.
