totally not gonna happen

Derrick had never really worked quite this hard before, showing... he knew how to put books away at the library. He hoped he got the job. Actually, he'd shocked himself the most about this. What was happening to him? Maybe Ian was a good influence on him, after all. He hadn't thought about his music. It bothered him a little. But he had his music theory class to worry about. So he wasn't totally without music.

"I really want this job." Derrick finally admitted. "You think I can do it?" He was serious too.

"Yeah, you're really getting a lot done." Ian smiled back. They walked to the back then where the empty carts were. That's when Derrick saw Asa. Derrick couldn't help but stare. He hoped that guy wasn't after his job. He was being all friendly with that young woman Ian claimed he didn't like, but he knew he did. Derrick had decided days earlier, that's why Ian and Amy were not a real couple. Ian was crushing on his boss. Of course, Asa didn't let Derrick go unnoticed.

"Hey, you're Amanda's brother, right?" Asa looked at him.

"Uh, yeah. " Derrick guessed he'd have to shake his hand. He didn't really want too. "You're like Elliot's little brother?"

"Just cousins." He introduced himself, asked him what he was reading these days. It felt like some sort of undercover reporting going on. All this interest he had in him.

"I'm just shelving books." Derrick smirked.

"Did you find anything interesting?" Asa gave him a serious look.

"Just some books on Al Capone." Derrick shrugged. What was up with this dude and all the questions on books? Derrick was afraid to hang around much more. He went off to the breakroom to get a soda. Ian was already there... into a bag of popcorn, someone left.

"I think that dude is into my sister." Derrick told Ian.

"What are you talking about?" Ian almost spewed his soda on Derrick.

"That's Elliot's cousin, and he's at our place, all the time. Now he's following me to the library. What is up with that?" Derrick winced as he dug into the popcorn too.

"I think he's applying for the Young Adult Librarian position." Ian nodded.

"Really?" Well, Derrick could breathe easy now. At least Asa wasn't after his job.
