little dreams

What Kayla wouldn't give for her parents to move away. They still wondered why she didn't go with the guy who was going to be in the FBI.

She told Syd about this while they were in the kitchen and the guys were off in the livingroom playing a video game.

Granted, she hadn't exactly won the lottery with Oliver. But she had to believe there must have been some kind of fate when they walked into that little specialty place, downtown that afternoon. She thought he might find it funny that there was a restaurant in their very small town that sold candy from the UK. Of course, the old store owner just couldn't get enough of his accent. Then when she compared him to her dead husband, well...Kayla so wanted to drag him out of the place. But that hadn't happened.

Now he was up at four and at that place baking up goods for those on their way to the police station and school. He'd been so industrious. Of course, it hadn't exactly paid off. He wasn't making a huge salary by any means. But he seemed to enjoy it. And everyone loved it, when he talked.

A part of her was very happy for him. But it was annoying, listening to her mother or her dad speak of what she could have been. All their hopes and dreams of her being an English professor were gone. Really, she was sure it wouldn't have mattered if Oliver were here or not. It was never enough. It was as if she'd missed her calling.

"So you've just stopped speaking to them?" Syd winced with concern as she was getting the pizza out of the oven.

"Yes." She tried not to feel bad about it. "I can't be who they want me to be." Even so, it was perhaps a stand still. They, Kayla and Oliver, would be in her little one bedroom apartment, possibly forever. Really, she felt the only family she had was Oliver. As it was, she didn't want to listen to someone telling her what a fool she'd been. She had to think positive for Oliver. Maybe he really was a chef.

  2. I think we all have to make that choice..when the time comes. To believe that factor "us" even when your parents just can't see it.

  4. I'm just glad that she has Oliver with her. Though I wish that she could patch things up with her parents - I'm sure that they aren't as disappointed in her as she thinks. :(

  7. Her parents should really just let her decide.
