"I need to talk." Asa said what was on his mind to Kayla. It was just the two of them. The library hadn't opened yet. He seriously needed to say it to someone. Perhaps it would have been better going to confession. He didn't have Nick to unload on. Besides, generally, they only talked about young adult librarian reading programs, a couple of times a month. He wasn't sure what Nick would think of him, but with Kayla..well, he didn't really care. Or did he?
"What? You're quitting?" She looked at him sternly and told him he was valuable. She liked that he helped out more than any of the other librarians at circulation.
"No, I'm not quitting." But he planted himself on the counter by the sink across from her desk. "I did something."
"Like what?" She winced. "It couldn't be that bad. You did something with a patron?"
"No, not really." He had to think about that. Patrons. "No. no!" Who did she think he was? He looked at her wide eyed then. "Its, its Amanda."
"Amanda?" She looked at him as if she hadn't a clue what he was talking about.
"You know, Rosie?" He winced.
"Oh, that Amanda. Sorry." Kayla smiled then as she twirled a pencil around.
"She's my cousin's wife." He shrugged. "Only, they aren't exactly together."
"Yeah, I think I remember him having an accident." She nodded as she watched him.
"Yeah, that's one of the reasons I wanted to help out. I thought I should. She's family. And so much going on." He thought then, wondering which part he really wanted Kayla to know. That he'd accidentally stolen Elliot's identity to buy a car for Amanda or that he'd slept with her.
I wonder if Asa feels more than he thinks he does for Amanda? I really think he is a great guy, I hope that he knows what he is doing.
ReplyDeleteOh, gotta watch what you say to co-workers these days.
ReplyDeleteAsa is definitely harboring a lot of secrets. :/
ReplyDeleteIs he really doing the right thing? o_O
ReplyDeleteIts hard to keep secrets to yourself.
