long time coming

Ellie hadn't planned on anyone extra for lunch, but there was Eric. As it was, Charlie was in his high chair eating mushrooms and avocado with his mac and cheese speckled with broccoli.

"Did you really have to be that way with Ian?" Ellie was shocked that he wanted to talk to her about this instead of Syd. "You will tell Syd, won't you?"

"I guess. I dunno. I just thought I knew him, all right. Obviously, I don't." He wasn't too keen on the mac and cheese broccoli, but he had a bowl of it.

"You have to be supportive, you have too." Ellie hadn't expected Eric to go off the deep end about Ian dating Derrick.

"I don't see how." He gave her a bitter look.

"Yes, you can. You will. You have too." Must she remind him that he'd had a crush on someone once. "You know if things had been different you might be with Cory, right now."

He gave her a tense glare, but ate his bowl of noodles in silence.

"Then he has to say, how understanding Oliver is, and I'm not." He sighed, not bringing up the past that Ellie had mentioned. "I wish I hadn't said anything, but I had to. He's my brother. I don't like Derrick. I think he's bad news."

"But lets say, it was someone you thought was great, would it be so bad?" Ellie questioned. "Someone ..lets say, like Cory?"

"Well, we know what was on Cory's mind. It was just sex, you know." Eric reminded her.

"Yeah, but it wasn't with you. He was your friend. He just wasn't infatuated with you." Ellie told him. She couldn't believe he'd react this way about Ian. Eric, of all people.

"So this is all about infatuation, is it?" Eric pushed  his bowl away.

Ellie shook her head. She was glad he had someone to rant about this too. It was interesting how people's lives twisted and turned. Had Eric changed that much? Sure, she thought he was a better person now because of Syd.

"Just stop stressing. You have to. Its Ian's life. Not yours." Ellie said, hoping not to get preachy. "And you tell Syd everything. Can't believe, you didn't, already."

"Everything?" Eric winced back. She could see, he thought it would be like opening a can of worms.

  1. Definitely an interesting meal.

I wonder if Eric will take her advice. And it's so hard not to get preachy when you're giving advice.
