old thoughts run deep

Things were so quiet after the Willow and Oliver discussion over the menu down at the shop. Ian helped Jules clean up while Oliver talked to their dad, and the girls went to watch Liam do tricks. Ian was alone with Jules and wanted to talk to him. It was just Ian didn't know how to approach it.

"What is it?" As usual, Jules could read him like a book.

Ian looked at Jules as if he couldn't say.

"Don't tell me, its what I think it is?" His voice was barely above a whisper as he rinsed dishes and put them in the dishwasher while Ian put leftovers away. "You haven't ..you know, been with her..have you?"

Ian eyeballed Jules, thinking any other time he would have used different words to describe the activities, but he was more vague now. As if maybe he wasn't posting it in a blog now or scratching a space in the bathroom stall down at the pub about how many he'd slept with.

Jules festered a perturbed look as he put the left overs in the fridge.

"I love her. I do." Ian quickly whispered right back.

"Fine then. I guess that's enough." Jules wiped down the counter as if he were doing so in his sleep.

"What if it isn't?" Ian sighed, a bit misty eyed. Practically tears. This was not a good feeling to have inside. It made him angry, to sense it.

"What is it you want to hear?" Jules looked at him wide-eyed.

"It almost happened..one time." Ian shrugged as if it could. Really.

"Well, maybe she's not ready. You can't rush it." Jules' grin was a bit foolish.

"It wasn't with her." Ian saw Kayla out of the corner of his eye then. A shiver ran through him.

"Oh, dear." Jules gritted a grin as if to ebb him on.

"I'm serious." Ian eyeballed him again as he shoved his hands in his salmon colored pants.

"I'm sure, you, are. That's what your problem is. I take it." Jules rolled his eyes. They were almost done in the kitchen. Although, Ian didn't want to move. "Maybe, you've got your eye on someone else. Boy love. Is that it? I mean, if that's what you like, she can't fix that." Jules broke it down for him. "But you can't just lead her on, either."

"Where is all this talk coming from? Huh?" Ian winced hard as he leaned against the kitchen counter. "You, of all people, who'd bone anything without a second thought. You don't even know me." He was getting testy.

"Oh, but don't I? You, need a boyfriend." Jules was sure of it. He'd cut to the chase. Ian shook his head. Didn't think so. Maybe Jules was the wrong person to talk to. Maybe there was someone else he needed to see. And she was in the next room. Ian bit his bottom lip. He supposed this would not be the time to do it.

  7. I wonder if Jules really knows what is going on with Ian. Maybe, he's confused differently than any of us really know.
