a thought or two

Willow waited until dinner was almost over before she brought up her little adventures, down in the old market.

"I think we need to switch things up," Willow said to Oliver who was in the middle of his roast beef for one more serving.

"Switch what?" He looked confused. He generally kept that look with her, when they talked. It was as if he didn't want to take her seriously.

"We need more low-carbs on the menu." She decided. "You know. Sweet potato waffle fries. Something vegetarian. Gluten-free."

"Oh really?" At least he didn't go viral on her. He probably would have, if it were the two of them. She rarely had anything to do with him, alone. Jules was the go between. She guessed. She took Jules' hand. Explained how they'd made several trips to places that were a lot like Oliver's. But they could expand. Offer people in their hometown a remarkable menu, where they wouldn't have to travel in traffic to another downtown.

"Well, what if I told you, I want to scrap the whole thing. Start over." Oliver glared at her.

"You wouldn't." Kayla piped in. She was always on Willow's side, and Willow liked that about Oliver's wife.

"I want more than bangers and beans, you know." Oliver was gruff then. He reminded them how wonderful the pot roast had been. They'd devoured it. Oliver did a good bit of the savoring which urked Willow a bit. "I can grill a fine sirloin, even fish." He winced.

"That's a bit radical, you know, Oliver." Willow looked at him blankly. "I just wanted to add one or two items to the menu, we already have."

"I like her idea." Kayla seconded it. Suddenly, it felt like a go-ahead to Willow.
