its not a dare

Who else was there to celebrate the 4th with? But..with Audrey.  Among other things, Aidan was trying to get on with his life. He'd found a new job that was only suppose to be part time, but wasn't exactly. It was a bit of a stretch getting the night off. But he was working at the barbecue place that had been his friend's . Actually, his father's. Chet would be running it now, except he was killed in a car bomb overseas while during a tour of duty.  Aidan hadn't even seen his friend in years, but Chet's father remembered Aidan and Aidan felt fortunate that anyone would give him a job, and he was glad to be there for Chet's dad, too. Of course, this meant usually running the cash register for the most part. Yet, business was booming.

He'd brought a bucket of ribs to the park. He told Audrey this was his future. And she said it was mighty spicy.

"Yeap, I'm done. Stick a fork in it." He sighed. The divorce was final. He hadn't taken anything from Elaine, after all.

"Good for you." It was an alcohol free night. In fact, Audrey brought along some diet soda. They were going to enjoy the night. She seemed refocused now. She really loved her job at the library. And her laughter was infectious as they made themselves comfortable on an old quilt near the bandstand.

"I see Topher and his band are playing." She noticed. "He didn't get your brother to be his drummer." She popped open a can of pop and took a sip.

"Yeah, I'm glad he didn't." Aidan knew Henry was level headed. He could only hope he was inspiring that boyfriend of his. Henry was not a follower.

"Huh? Look's like he got Stefan back." Audrey grinned about Topher's drummer. She let out a belch.

"You aren't going to see him, are you?" Aidan winced, knowing that sounded jealous, but he knew those two together was not the best combination. Especially, on a holiday.

"Uh...Why not?" She winced back at him as if it would be harmless.

"Its just..finally, things are going so well. Right now..for you. I just..I just don't want, you, to mess it up." He remembered her telling him how Stefan was in rehab.

Aidan looked at her, wondering if maybe Audrey was more than a friend. Could they be? He didn't want to see the old Audrey. He liked this one. Couldn't she see that?

"Have a little faith?' Audrey squinted hard as if she were mad at him now. She got up with her drink and walked toward the crowd.

Aidan didn't like this at all. What was he suppose to do? Run after her? Kiss her? What could he do to stop her from making a mistake? No, he didn't budge from the quilt. He really wanted to have some faith.
