let the good times roll

Let the Good Times Roll

"You wouldn't try to get back with Hutch? Would you?" Josie didn't mean to press Daisy for answers as she watched her with the three month old. Mandy wasn't a newborn, and Daisy handled her with care.

Josie didn't want to hear talk about Daisy seeing Hutch. She wanted some things to stay normal. Daisy was still with Max.

"No, he has a girlfriend." Daisy informed her. She didn't say another word about Hutch. Daisy asked about Derrick.

"How could he just slip away, like that?" Daisy wanted to know.

"We're talking about Derrick, you know. He's got about a thousand lonely boyfriends and girlfriends. He knows how to get by."  Josie shrugged. She could see him finding a whole new identity.

Daisy went to give Mandy a bottle. Josie watched Mandy hold on to Daisy's fingers.

"Its so sad about Mitch," Daisy said. "He's still at his Mom and Dad's?"

"Sky thinks he'll be back any day. His uncle has been around. He seems to be friends with Mitch. Nico might stay with them. I dunno." Josie wished they hadn't brought Derrick up.

Finally, Daisy handed over the baby and Josie practically melted into happiness. It was an overwhelming feeling she couldn't stop. Maybe it was better than ...well, she just couldn't let herself go there. She sucked in a breath.

"And ..how is..Sky?" Daisy remembered.

Josie rolled her eyes. "Fine."

"Oh, don't sound so miserable." Daisy faked a pout. "Be glad you've had this summer to get to know him."

"I know." Josie then told her how she'd written Dean all summer. "I want him to know, I..I still care about him." She was beginning to believe maybe that was why she hadn't let anything happen with Sky. She still loved Dean. Of course, Sky had never once really  been a boyfriend. Well, there was once. Maybe. But she guessed not. "I've been thinking  about going to Oklahoma and seeing Dean."

"Really?" Daisy squinted hard. "Alone?"

"I am a very good driver." Josie informed her.

"Josie, don't do anything you're going to regret." There went Daisy again, like an omen.

"If I remember correctly, the last time you said that, you got pregnant." Josie looked at her as if she needed to keep quiet.

"Maybe, Dean is..fine..with out you." Daisy sighed.

Josie really did not like hearing those words.
