space and time

Space and Time

Derrick couldn't say he was ready to jump back in, to anything.

But maybe he had.

Still, he felt he'd fallen into the hole, and he couldn't get himself up. He had fallen into something, and it wasn't exactly a hole.

Rossie took pity on him, perhaps. But he thought maybe there was a reason they were together.

"Now, how long has it been since I've had a drink?" He felt himself drifting back and forth as if he were caught up in a wave of calm. Of course, there was one thing he was good at. Sex.

Rossie hadn't complained. It felt like starting over. He guessed.

Perhaps, it was the fact that nothing was on his mind. He didn't even know where his phone was and didn't have a desire to even know if anyone left him any messages.

"Three days." Rossie put another X on the calender. She looked him over... there.... in her tiny little eat in kitchen. The sun was golden and here they were in their underwear.

Rossie kissed him hard. For second, he was certain she was just checking him for alcohol. After all, she would sip his bottled water, to make sure it wasn't vodka.

He cracked a smile.

"You, don't trust me yet?"

Naturally, she didn't ask but went to the fridge to pull out the eggs.

"Hey, you're OK that I'm staying, right?" He hung back as if he'd rather be in bed, with her in it, even if the brand new day had so many possibilities.

She shrugged as if maybe he should go away now, but instead he came up from behind and wrapped his arms around her stout middle and kissed her neck. She hardly flinched. As usual, Rossie didn't say much.

Perhaps, that was all the part of the drying out phase was. Letting him take up her space and hoping he would learn not to drink, again.
