an unlikely ending

an unlikely ending

This was so unexpected on an early morning. Camille winced as she counted the ten and twenty dollar bills in the coffee can. She looked up at Sky.

"There is over 2 thousand dollars in this can." Camille didn't know why he wanted her to have it.

"Yeah, well..I owe you..and..and Josie's really upset with me." He pressed his lips sadly. "I want her to see her friend, this summer in England. I dunno if that'll help." Sky shrugged. "But.. you... do whatever you want to do with the money." He sighed. "Tell her, its a graduation present."

"But it really wasn't a fight, was it?" Camille couldn't imagine Josie being cross with Sky. She put the plastic lid back on the coffee can.

"Well, she didn't hit me, or anything." Sky shrugged. "Maybe..maybe I'm not as OK as..I thought I was."

Camille nodded wondering if one depressed person could create another depressed person.

"I hate to see you go." Camille looked at him as if she was on this emotional roller-coaster with him. "What are you going to do?"

"I found a boarding house." Sky nodded, promising it was going to be all right. "Don't worry, I won't be cooking, but I'm sure the food won't be anywhere near as good as yours."

She smiled as she went to bag a few home-made cookies from the cookie jar.

"You're like family, you know." She hugged him, hoping Josie would get over her little spat with him, but he sounded as if he weren't wanted here, and he was going before Josie could change her mind.
