The nitty gritty

the nitty gritty

Rowdy missed all the commotion of Christmas. In fact, he'd gone to D.C. with the Dr. Park that Ming introduced him too. After all, she'd lived in the D.C. area for a good twenty years.

"But they live in Virginia." Will reminded him. Of course, neither knew for sure which one Fish and Shan resided in.

"So they do." Rowdy's words were few. He couldn't even tell anyone in the family what he was really doing with  JoJo. It was just nice. That was all there was to it. "So where is your grandmother?" She wasn't here. Thank God. Honestly, he couldn't remember the last time he actually spoke to Katie. Maybe it was that time when she told him he had a son, but he couldn't tell anyone.

"At my house!" Will didn't sound all too pleased about it.

"Still?" Rowdy winced. "Its almost Valentines day, you know." Rowdy changed the subject as he set in his rustic leather recliner. "How's your love life?"

"What?" Now Will was being grumpy. It couldn't be all of his grandmother's doing. True, he knew she was a queen of all mother queens.

"It couldn't be that bad, could it?" Rowdy tilted his head, trying to figure this boy out. He wasn't quite Goth, but he was no punk, either.

"She's been hanging out with this..this Randy." Will was in a pout.

"Oh. You and Gabby have a falling out?" Rowdy found this far more interesting. He strained just a bit to hear Will talk, his hands full of emotion.

"Not..exactly, I mean, she really liked the scarf I gave her. Clare taught me how to crochet. And I got her a necklace too. We were fine at Christmas, but then..this Randy shows up. And she's far to busy with him." Will crossed his arms, as if there was no hope of getting Gabby back, Frankly, Rowdy thought it was time for Will to move on, but he wouldn't dare say it.
