Macy squinted slightly, thinking this couldn't be true. Evidently, it was.
"Oh s h i t..." She covered her mouth. Yet, she felt so numb and even a bit faint. She shivered as she put the pregnancy test on the sink.
Why was this happening?
Actually, this whole aftermath with Maxie, hadn't been so bad. No lingering thoughts of missing him. When he was cold, he was a blizzard. It was weird that he'd been nice to her in the dead of winter.
Still, she was light headed. She thought of the times it could have happened, when it didn't. Now she felt it was her own doing. Possibly, it was just her way to get back at Dustin, who was all so prim and proper and worried about her education. Of course, she didn't want him to know about this.
Macy went to have tea. She wasn't sure what to say to Josie.
"Are you going to..you know, go to the clinic?"
"Oh." She thought of the abortion clinic right around the corner from where she lived when she was at her grandmother's. There were always those people, out in droves... holding up disgusting signs of baby fetuses. "I guess..I should.."
"Should what?" Josie winced.
"I dunno..get rid of it." Maxie wouldn't want it. She felt certain.
"I didn't mean.." Josie looked at her as if she wasn't thinking. "You, need to get.. checked out. See..if..if its really true."
The baby woke in the next room. Josie got up to check on Allie.
"OH MY GOD." She heard Josie's voice sound almost horrified. Macy thought she might fall out of her chair.
Macy came running.
"What is it?"
"She rolled over." Josie smiled. "I let her sleep on her tummy, sometimes. I know they say not too, but she hates sleeping on her back." Josie was so pleased. "She did it. And I missed it." She looked at Macy, as if they were in complete different worlds.
