its the little things

its the little things

Sheena thought back to the impromptu dinner at Sara and Taylor's while she was making her morning coffee at work.

"So, you're really not going back to Blackie's?" Sheena waited until after dinner and the dishes before she got a chance to talk to Minnie who was giving the baby a bottle.

"No. I'm not going back." Minnie sighed as if she was too tired to fight about it. "I've got my own room at Josh's." She sounded like he needed her, and she needed to be needed.

Sheena guess she'd let it go. There were a lot of things she wasn't so sure about with Omaha, lately. Of course, when Sara called to tell her something was wrong with Omaha..Sheena was expecting the flu. Instead, he didn't want to talk. He wanted to be alone.

"I hope Omaha..will ..tell you everything." Minnie rocked the slumbering baby, even if she wasn't in a rocking chair.

"But what if he doesn't?"

"I guess I'll tell you, then." Minnie told her.

"What?" Sheena's eyes lit. Minnie knew what was going on with Omaha, and she didn't.

"Its an old story. Its really not what he thinks its really about. Somebody else is still on his mind, but..just give him some time." Minnie nodded.

Sheena pressed her lips tight.

She really wanted to be Minnie's friend, but somehow, she didn't think she was good enough to be in her company.

Minnie had so little, but she did so much. They were nothing alike.

"Maybe tomorrow, or some time soon, Josh will bring me by and we could make something." Minnie smiled.

"Like what?" Sheena wanted to know.

"How about fried pies." Minnie said she still remembered a recipe. "We used to make them, at home. Maybe Omaha will remember them." Although, Omaha hadn't grownup with Minnie.

For a moment, Sheena envied Minnie, as if she might have a personal connection to him.

"Can't say I know what his mother used to make, but maybe someone else did." Minnie shrugged.

Someone else? Sheena wondered who this someone was..on Omaha's mind.
