what's a nephew to do

what's a nephew to do?

Brick guessed things were OK with Lily. Still, it hurt a little (maybe a lot) when he saw Rosie with Sunny.

They were a thing now. God, he hoped Rosie wasn't doing anything serious with Sunny. Actually, he respected Sunny and had faith that Sunny wouldn't let Rosie go off the deep in and seduce him completely.

He probably wouldn't know what to do, anyway. Brick imagined.

"Would you know what to do?" Dewey's question stung Brick deep. After all, he didn't come over just to chat with his grandma.

"Would you?" Brick shot back. He knew Dewey would stand his ground. He wasn't the type who would mess around with a girl. He was genuinely good, but he didn't know now, since Angie broke his heart.

He said he never slept with Angie.

"That's incredible." Brick smirked. He took a look at the old Pokemon cards his uncle was giving him. "You're a hell of lot stronger than I thought. I'm proud of you, man."

"Sometimes, I think..I should have." His voice was low. He looked like he was about to cry, slumped over, sitting at the edge of his very blue bed.

Brick almost chocked on a laugh. He really hated seeing his one and only and favorite uncle in such a bad way.

"Don't got crazy on me, OK?" Brick sighed as he reached to pat his uncle's broad shoulders. "You, can get through this. You will."

Dewey shook his head as if he didn't know if he could. His fingers spread over his tear drenched eyes. He'd been through tough times before when grandma sent him to Boys Town for a few months.

"You're a great guy." Brick told him. "Remember, your sister is gonna have a baby, any day now. You'll be an uncle again." Brick was talking about this sister that Dewey just found out about. He guessed it was old news now. Julie and Irwin were teachers, and they were expecting a baby girl any day.

"You have to be a great uncle to that niece, you know, as good of an uncle, as you are to me." Brick knew he needed Dewey in his life. "I'm so proud of you, man. And its not about football and all those games you help win. It's your attitude. It how you've gotten through so much with Granny B. and the crew." His family was so dysfunctional, but Dewey was the best of them, when it came to sports and school.

Now, even Brick was getting a little teary-eyed.

"You've got a whole life ahead of you." Brick told him. "With or without Angie."

Honestly, he didn't care if they got back together. Somebody, who wanted to ruin his life before graduating high school wasn't all that great to be around.

"If you're feeling down, call me." Brick sighed, thinking he would be there for Dewey, no matter what.
