Prom

Ollie wasn't so sure he was up for this. Dressing up and trying to enjoy the night in an old museum.

"Why is the prom in a museum?" He asked Gabby who was driving into the heart of the city. Her boyfriend was in the front seat with her and Ollie was next to Valentina.

"It's tradition." She told him. "Would you rather be in the stinky old gym?"

Ollie shook his head, no. Still, he hated being in a tight, but Valentina looked lovely and he guessed he had to play his part, too for the night.

They'd stopped by the old diner before they left for a burger and fries. Ollie wanted to be giddy and full of laughter, but Gabby's boyfriend was smug as if they might be going to a funeral.

Of course, the prom hall didn't look like a museum at all. The lights turned and swayed to the beat of the music in the dark.

"Wow." Valentina was the first to express the splendor. He was happy to be with her, to share her excitement.

"I've never been to prom, you know." He didn't think he'd told her. "Let's dance!"

"She'll get her hair messed up, you two get in line for pictures." Gabby was the mothering sort tonight. He didn't remember her being that way.

Ollie shrugged. He guessed they'd have plenty time to dance, but he'd ask Valentina what she wanted to do first. And she wanted to dance.

It was prom, after all.
