Friday the 13th

"You said, you'd look at the apartment with me," Declan clarified as Brandon gave him a pessimistic look.

"You know, you won't like it here," Brandon said with his arms crossed as they walked into the white-walled apartment with the old hardwood floors. "This will just be beneath you, and you know it."

Declan shook his head. "You said to find something within our means. Besides, it's close to Yuki and Remi's and you know how much help they need." He sighed, unsure he knew what to do exactly. He didn't even have furniture, but at least it was close enough for Brandon to cycle to work.

Brandon cracked up. "I thought you had other things on your mind. You know, like the one that got away and you, feeling sure he misses you."

It was true. They'd said a lot of things over the phone about past loves and whatever wretched thing that had ever happened to them. It was as if they were testing each other, hoping the other would walk away, but here they were. Together.

"Jesus Christ!" Declan snapped. "He's married and probably still on a honeymoon. Just shut up, will you?"

Brandon only sighed as he went to check out the kitchen. He looked at the electric burners and checked for cleanliness in the oven (He made sure it worked). He also took a look at the fridge and even pulled it out to look at the back of it.

Declan looked at him wide-eyed. He would have never thought to do that, but Brandon gave the kitchen a firm inspection.

"I think it'll do," Brandon said with a shrug.

Next was the bathroom. Declan could afford two bedrooms. Although, they only needed one. Naturally, he needed an office, too.

Brandon must have worked over every knob in the bathroom. He flushed the commode endlessly and then he played around with the showerhead to see if it worked properly.

Declan was glad Brandon was here, yet he felt certain Brandon would have been fine with anything. Although, he could see Brandon wanted Declan to get his money's worth.

"How do you know so much about this kind of stuff?" Declan winced.

"I've worked in hotels," he told him as if he might be a jack of trades.

  1. Two men and an appartment. Brandon is giving the place a close inspection. As a former hotel worker he knows what he's doing. Although Declan is not happy with it, chances are both of them will settle for it.

  5. I can't imagine men checking things out that well, women yes...well except for the back of the fridge that is. Interesting dynamic.

  6. What a pleasant surprise that Declan and Brandon are moving in together! Your recap of their rocky road to romance is beautiful: "It was true. They'd said a lot of things over the phone about past loves and whatever wretched thing that had ever happened to them. It was as if they were testing each other, hoping the other would walk away, but here they were. Together." I hope they will be happy together. :)

    Love the new masthead! :)
