"I was put off when he said I treated Alfie like my child," Poppy told Victoria while she was slicing cucumbers for the dill dip that Victoria brought.
Victoria only nodded, letting Poppy vent about her whole I'M GONNA MAKE A DIFFERENCE WITH MY LIFE PLAN that fizzled evidently with Gage. She could see her friend was on the brink of tears.
"It'll get better," Victoria told her.
"No, it won't." The tears did drip down her face but it didn't stop her from chopping. Victoria only watched. "I envy you so much. You can go forward. I'm just stuck."
"Don't say that, Poppy," Victoria almost felt like crying with her as she went over to her friend and got her to put the knife down. She gave her a hug. That's when Poppy told Victoria that Alfie didn't want kids.
"What am I even doing with him?" She cleared her throat and Victoria reached for a paper towel to give to her.
"Didn't you guys talk about stuff like this early on?" Victoria wished she hadn't said it, but that's what couples did, didn't they?
Poppy only sighed and finally blew her nose. "I just..I just thought he might-" She shook her head, no.
"Look, if you aren't happy," Victoria said. "He needs to know why. It might be time for you two to go your separate way. I know you might be scared, but..but this time, you make him move. This is your place. You've had it long before he got here. Tell him to move."
She knew Poppy didn't want to hear this. And she didn't mean to cause any grief. "I just want you to be happy."
Poppy nodded.
"That doesn't mean, you're just gonna..I dunno sleep with the next person you meet and hope for a baby, is it?" Victoria looked at Poppy blankly.
"When have I ever moved that fast in a relationship?" Poppy asked.
"Well, you know-" Victoria stopped herself from reminding Poppy how she got together with Alfie. And didn't she remember that courtship with Jory?
She hated to see the two break up. They were both her friends and she lived in the burbs now. Victoria hadn't expected the world to change this much in a matter of days.
I like this open, friendly kind of girl talk: Poppy and Victoria. This is what friendship is all about.
ReplyDeleteOh dear.
ReplyDeleteAnd notice the 8 legs on the spider
Hello!! nice chapter, thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!!
Pobre Victoria es terrible cuando uno se separa de sus amigos. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteSometimes life changes fast.
ReplyDeletemy ex also did not want kids...
ReplyDeleteyes, changes could be fast and unpredicted....
ReplyDeleteVictoria is a good friend to Poppy. She's so right when she says that Alfie needs to make the sacrifice this time to keep Poppy in his life. And it makes sense that Victoria's hurting too because despite being in a good place, her life is changing. And that's never easy.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for including not only my sunflowers, but also my fish in your collage! I hope you enjoyed your brookies at yesterday's party. The husband and I went to my parents,' where we ate our weight in, not cupcakes, but cheese, pie, and pasta. I feel like I need to go on a diet too; my arteries are probably suffocating. On that depressing not, I hope you're having a lovely Labor Day! 💖🤍💙
Interesting :-)
ReplyDeleteI don't know how things will work out with Poppy and Alfie, but I agree with Victoria that they need to talk. And I hope things work out with Victoria and Stevie too....so much drama...I love it! :D
ReplyDeletePS Happy Labour Day, Ellie:) And that's awesome to know you guys got some cooler temps. TBH, I really love summer and heat wave so fall/winter is a bit hard for me....LOLZ....I'm in the wrong continent for sure.
