"I don't know why you have to be this way around your mother," Finn sighed looking over at Oakley as if she hated being here. He didn't think it was completely true. In his eyes, he thought she was just playing the part. It was as if it was her duty to be moody. Perhaps, it was expected of her.
They'd managed the night through even if it felt like they were up most of the night playing games with Alfie and Boone and their significant others. Finn kind of like it. He had some good laughs. Although, Oakley was mute for the most part.
"What do you mean?" She looked up at him all innocent.
"You know what you are," Finn practically whispered back as they were waiting to hit the trail on the ponies.
"What?" It was as if she was completely oblivious after all or just the greatest actress he'd ever met.
"Party pooper," Finn's smile was open as he coaxed her along. The others had already saddled up.
"I just don't want to get hurt," she said while the people who were helping them find the right fit for the trail. They had an old mare waiting for Oakley while Finn went with the black gelding. After all, he knew a little about horses. His grandparents owned a farm and he'd spent time there growing up.
"I always wanted a horse, but we lived in the city," he mentioned.
He wasn't sure what Oakely's problem was with her parents or with ponies. She seemed to know what to do once she got situated. He followed as the rest were already on their way.
"Did you fall off a horse when you were a kid?" He asked on their way as the horses knew exactly where to go at a brisk pace since there wasn't a hold-up. It felt good to be back in the saddle again. If only he could find a place where he could go to be around horses.
"I got pitched off once," she told him.
"That must have been scary," he imagined her falling off the horse's back onto the harsh ground. "Did you break anything?"
She shook her head, no. "Actually it pitched forward and I turned a complete flip over his head and landed in a creek. The worst thing was when it jerked back, the reins sliced my hand open. It really wasn't that bad. I just thought the horse was going to stomp on me."
"That's something I wouldn't forget." He told her. "My gramp's horses were kid-friendly. I used to stand on their backs when I was little. He used to think I could have been a trick rider, but then my legs got long and well, I was too clumsy for that. If I'd stayed short I would have been a jockey. I think that would be the most fascinating job."
Funny, he hadn't told anyone this. Ever. But he always felt he could tell Oakley anything. Still, he thought she preferred if he kept quiet at night and played all of Harry's House songs on the piano for her so she could fall asleep.
Parece que tienen mucha confianza. Me gusto mucho el capítulo. Besos

ReplyDeleteOoh the camping trip continues! Funny I was pitched off a horse once. We were on a trip to Mackinac Island. I had a hard time getting back for the longest time after that :(

ReplyDeletePoor Oakley
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog. I reciprocate with affection.
ReplyDeleteLook at Oakley and Finn, bonding over horses! I don't blame Oakley one bit for being skittish; having your horse flip you and then getting your hand sliced by the reins sounds traumatic and painful. By contrast, Finn's story about his jockey dreams is playful but nevertheless confessional.
ReplyDeleteI've been on horses a few times growing up. Nothing bad happened, but I didn't like the feeling of not being in control. Also, they were so smelly! 🐎💩🐴💩
