"Hold up, wait a minute," KC knew he was the last person Brick wanted to see, especially on campus. He'd brought Millie for backup, although, he hadn't told her this. It was just a gingerly outing to see what UNL would have to offer. After all, it was near the music district. Oddly, Millie had never been to Lincoln. It still baffled KC, but this thing with Harley baffled him even more.
"What? I don't have time for this," Brick grumbled.
"Well, I know we aren't, exactly friends, but..but we both know Harley," KC said he talked to Harley.
"It's not like she's in love with Raney, they..well..he..he is just getting used to, you know, with his mom gone and all..you can't stay mad at Harley. She's in the guest room, you know."
KC knew this much. He and Millie had dropped by a few days ago with food. He knew it was time to get to know Raney and he was an all right guy. Actually, Raney even knew how high the sales tax was in Lawerence. Just one of the reasons why he'd never move there.
"And..and you," KC stared him down. "What's this I hear about Lily?"
"Lily?" Brick squinted, but he wouldn't look KC in the eye, he just kept walking. "Who..who told you?"
"Actually, my little sister," KC nodded. "Look, you don't need to get involved with her. You made it this far, you can't let her bring you down right now. She's got her own stuff to figure out."
KC pressed his lips tight. "Let's get a coffee." He looked over his shoulder. Millie was still with him. "You haven't met Millie yet."
Brick was reluctant, but KC got everyone an egg sandwich too. Of course, Brick stuffed his face as if he had no time for anything.
"Millie might do a show here at the old theater," KC talked up Millie as if she wasn't even there. Of course, she kept staring at her biscuit and sausage as if she was too nervous to eat. "We've been working on some original songs too."
KC smiled as if maybe he was at his best when he was Millie. Although, they were generally busy with melodies and writing down notes and lyrics.
"I think you and Harley need to talk it out," KC knew Harley was upset that he never talked to her anymore. "Maybe, it is time to let it go. You know, not worry about anything but getting the skills you need to go on with your future."
Brick was in a pout.
"You two were so good, I always wanted what you had," KC felt sad when he said it. "I was just too envious to learn from it, but you two are also my friends. And I just want the best for the both of you."
KC looked to Millie. Although, he still wasn't sure if they were any more than music partners.

ReplyDeleteŻyczę pięknych chwil w złocie jesieni
The title itself intrigued

ReplyDeleteStrange relationships between these people...they all have so much to do in their lives, but still act like a busybody on other people's biz...friends or not.
ReplyDeleteOh, it is amazing what some friends can get up too..especially, those from high school...in the Heartland.
DeleteVery good
ReplyDeleteYes, the days go by, sometimes very quickly, people sometimes don't know how to talk to each other to reach an understanding... And the chapter is interesting, as always in yours, although I regret that I don't always have time to read everything, because I work a lot.
ReplyDeleteBest regards and have a good new week.
The conversation didn't go very well, sometimes you can't get too involved.
ReplyDeletewe face many "complicated" in daily life....
ReplyDeletenice story.
Maybe they should concentrate on their own lives and not worry about others and what they think.
ReplyDeleteGenial fragmento. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteEllie,
ReplyDeleteThe days pass without us noticing, one day we are 5 years old and the next we are 50. What matters in life is to accumulate good moments with friends. We cannot stop the chronology of age that will lead us to finitude.
A kiss and have a great week!!!
Even among friends, relationships can sometimes be difficult, as everyone has their own way of being and their own opinions.
ReplyDeletefriendship is sometimes as hard as relationship
