I can't help but think of you

 "Do you think they'll really get married," Junie said on the drive home after their little get-together with Millie.

"Hard to say," Maddie sighed, behind the wheel. It was starting to get dark, and the wind was pushing in a storm. "Maybe they should wait."

"Are you going to wait?" Junie wanted to know.

"Oh, I don't want to wait," Maddie said. She felt she was married to Boone already. "But then again, maybe we don't need a wedding."

"You gotta have a wedding," Junie surprised her.

"Why?" Maddie laughed. "So you can dress up?"

"Of course."

"Oh, you've got a lot of growing up to do," Maddie smiled.

"What about you?" Junie was in a pout.

They could both see streaks of lightning in the distance. It wouldn't be long until Junie would be home.

"I've grown a lot with Boone," Maddie told her. "I feel we are good together. We just like staying home together. I know he loves me and I love him. We just feel..." She had to think on this, hoping it made sense. "We feel at peace. I guess. I dunno. We love laughing together. Doing nothing. I guess. We might never make it big, but at least, we have each other."

Junie didn't have much to say. They were in Junie's driveway. As soon as she left, Maddie's cell rang.

"Are you OK?" It was Boone.

"Yeah, I just dropped Junie off."

"I hope you get home before the storm comes," he said he loved her and to stay safe.

"Love you too."

There was a crash of thunder then. Maddie got back on the street and headed home. She was steady. She didn't want to drive to quickly, but she wanted to make it back to Boone before the storm came.

Of course, Boone was waiting with hot chocolate. It was cold again. Maddie just laughed. She was hoping he'd make hot chocolate with that new can of whipped cream in the fridge.
