Tammy was flustered. Why or why didn't she get this done on the website? No, the DMV made it sound as if she had to come in person, and for the life of her, she hadn't meant to be a walk-in, but she was. Of course, she didn't know where the new location was, so Jo said he could help with that.
She didn't think it was a date or anything, but he bought her lunch at this little Tex-Mex place, and she thought she might lose it on the hot guacamole that was served with the beef tacos. She wondered then what she'd gotten herself into. Of course, he finished the tacos for her since she was so choked up.
She was guided by a guy in a mask when she got to a DMV computer to fill out the form. Of course, it was all in Spanish. It wasn't until she said, "Excuse me," that she found the place to click for English. Still, it was crazy to be asked so many questions. She'd brought mail and information about where she lived. It was supposed to be a no-brainer. But here she was asking for Jo's help, who wasn't exactly in teacher mode. Finally, a lady came by and gave her a ticket and told her to wait, but Jo sat down at the computer and continued.
"What were you doing?" She tensed when he finally found a seat next to her in the packed house of those waiting to see someone at the counter.
"I was just finishing up what you forgot," he shrugged, getting out his phone to tune to YouTube for Cat Videos.
"Finish up?" She practically snarled. "What are you talking about?"
Then she got a ring on her phone about an email. Her appointment had been cancelled at the DMV.
"What did you do?" Her eyes lit.
"Don't be like this, just wait, you've got your number." He winced back at her.
Tammy instantly sighed as she looked at the e-mail. She soon found out that those who had made appointments online were called first, while those with W before their number were not.
She tried her best to find a game her phone provided that was kind of a cube game, which was mainly just a commercial to download more games. The minutes went by.
"I bet you cancelled my number," she snapped.
"Well, go and see," He was as calm as could be. So she got up and asked the man in the mask. He told her it looked like she was only two people away in the walk-ins.
"I'm going to need a drink when I get out of here," she said when she got back.
"Really?" Jo smiled about that. "At your place?"
Tammy sighed with a smile. She looked around at the crowd of young people. Kids getting their driver's license. Young twenty-something girls, practically in their underwear, just to get a picture of their face. And here they were. Tammy didn't want to feel so old, but of course, she did as soon as she saw her new photo for her driver's license. But Jo was happy to be with her. She did have someone to go places with, and maybe he was looking out for her, after all.
