I knew there was something we never had

"I wish you guys could have come," Junie told Amy while they were in the hallway at school between classes. "It's such a blast playing these board games I never got to play when I was growing up."

"You know, Eli and I went to Homecoming with you and Darry," Amy was in a huff as if she couldn't spend her entire life on a double date with Junie.

"What? You see Eli every day," Junie tugged at her heavy backpack and was still carrying her English and History books.

"Precisely."

Amy looked at her blankly as if their group dating was expiring.

"Well, what do you want to do. You know, you and Eli?" Junie could sense a subtle shift between them, like a gradual change of some kind. Were they outgrowing each other? "You don't even have your driver's license?" At least, Junie had worked hard to get hers, even if she didn't have her own car, but perhaps she would by Christmas.

"My dad only wants me to know how to drive an electric car," Amy informed her.

"So."

"Well, we haven't found a used one yet. We might have to go all the way to Michigan to get it." She told her. She talked about how they had a supercharger at home, so her parents never had to charge their car up, anywhere.

"What does this have to do with Eli?" Junie winced.

"Nothing," Amy said she and Eli needed more alone time.

"I see." Junie was certain now she and Amy were in different chapters of their lives. Still, Junie wished they could do more in their circle. She wondered how Eli felt about this. After all, Darry was his bestie.

  1. It’s obviously a subtle, relatable slice of life about growing up and keep moving on

When a couple walks at different speeds, obviously one will fall behind! I'm not sure I understand this story very well!

  4. Ooooof! i totally get it! Group dynamics especially in high school change so fast...great story as always, Ellie!
And so sorry to hear about your shoulder, but good to know that the PT is helping.
PS That's also great to hear you're crocheting more hats! Where do you find the time? :) I haven't knitted in awhile...sigh....I do miss it. And you know, the original Reply show has been on my to-watch list for forever! I just recently started Season 2 of Gyeongseong Creature. Hopefully, I can finish that this month...LOLZ
