What a way to make a living

Chili was happy to see CW  getting along in the kitchen. She'd been worried about him, yet she hadn't reached out to him like she knew she should have. The new baby kept her busy and quite lost in time. Even now, she wondered if Hatcher was doing OK, but did her best to focus on the coffee shop.

"So how are things?" She knew he hadn't gotten out much since he got here. It felt then that he was still in prison. He was either here or in his room, like a confinement.

"Good, really, good." He nodded and pointed to the curly-haired girl who was grabbing orders and serving people.

"I see," Chili smiled brightly. Just what CW needed, a friend. And Crystal was the bubbly sort. Full of information about the specials and the desserts. She practically danced around and took care of everyone.

Finally, she came to Chili and introduced herself. "Nice to meet you." Her smile was fabulous. She was so upbeat.

"I'm glad you're here, you're just what we needed," Chili thanked her. She looked around the place. She'd been worried she would lose customers, but the place was going strong.

She told Crystal about Junie starting on weekends during the brunch rush.

"Junie? Well, this will be good for her," Crystal said she'd met her and she'd remembered her cousin used to work here. "I'm sure she'll get the hang of it."

"Well, I've got you and Millie to help her," Chili said. "And we've got a new guy coming in, we'll start out slow with him. He'll just bus tables.

"Really?" Crystal looked startled, but she put on a quick smile.

"It'll be fine," Chili smiled back.

Crystal nodded.

"He'll be living here, you know."

Crystal nodded back. She cleared her throat and got back to work.

Chili looked back at Millie, knowing she should have told her about the new guy first, but it felt to her that Crystal was supervisor material.
