When you're dragging me along like you do

"But I thought things were working out," Tyra wasn't sure she could console her little sister.  They were out together shopping for deals at the local department store. After all, Black Friday had already started. But Tyra hadn't found anything that was a steal, yet, as she pushed on with her cart. "Have you and KC talked?"

"I told him I want to go back to school." She pressed her lips tight. Tyra didn't think Millie was in any mood to shop. She went in with her regular rant about how much pressure it was to be in charge. The hours were long.

Tyra nodded, knowing Millie wasn't really ready for adulting, but at this rate, who was these days with prices rising and listening to the news?

"Well, I wouldn't quit altogether. I mean, it might take a while to get back into classes, and you said yourself you were waiting for classes that never fill up. Just tell them you want to work part-time. You know, you need this job." Tyra found herself sounding like her mother. Her mother was still working Tyra's shift back at the bakery. Her mother was always up at four.

"I know."

But Tyra could sense Millie wanted out. She knew she wasn't sleeping at night. Of course, she always had that happy smile of hers, but Tyra knew she was drained.

Tyra pushed her cart onward, past the plush Christmas displays and new Fall trends. She bet her mother had already done all her Christmas shopping. Tyra looked at a sweater or two, trying to think if it was her mom's taste, but of course, she found her own that she'd love to have. She put it back.

"Well, you are a people person. Have you thought about childcare?" Tyra knew the pay wasn't always great, but the pay at the coffee shop wasn't exactly any better.

"I'll look into an online job," Millie nodded as if she'd had enough with people.

Tyra didn't want to tell what a maze that could be. Live and learn, she guessed. About then, they found the gloves and scarves that were on sale. And there were some fun graphic tees, as well. Although they knew it would be cheaper at 5 Below, but then Millie reminded her, "There isn't much below five bucks there, anymore."

  1. Life can be tough if money is the issue...hope Millie find a better job to support herself.

  2. There are people who lack maturity, and going out there looking for something to do without experience (like taking care of children) doesn't seem productive to me.
    (ꈍᴗꈍ) Poetic and cinematic greetings.
