a slight blast from the past

Ellie waited for Kyle after school at the meshed fence that held the school in like a prison. She looked around for Kyle but didn't see him first. She saw Kelsey instead with a group of girls.

Ellie couldn't help but stare. She hadn't seen Kelsey since last summer. Kelsey was wearing her dark red hair in long layers around her face now. She really looked good. She could see why Kyle liked her. She was really easy on the eyes, and she supposed they'd had some fun at one time. She just wasn't sure how much fun they'd had.

She squinted remembering Kyle had said she'd slept with Caleb. But she didn't believe him then. Possibly she did now. She hated wondering about her and Kyle. He never mentioned her anymore like some guys did about an ex.

Ellie hugged herself then hoping, Kyle would be around soon so she could at least walk him part way home, but when she saw him. He looked away. As if he couldn't be seen with her here.

She took a deep breath and walked away. It had been a mistake, she guessed to at least let him know about the show. Evidently. But a short while later he caught up with her with no one around and gave her a surprise kiss on the back of her neck. He grabbed her single braid gently and swung it around to the side where he was next to her.

"What's going on?" He grabbed her belt loop then and tugged her in next to him.

"I don't know, maybe you don't want to be seen with me." She remained even lipped.

"I thought you liked secret stuff," Kyle said.

"Sort of." She sighed.

"Well, what is it?" His hand came around to her back pocket of her jeans and he slid his hand in .

"There's this thing, that Eric and Cory want us to go too," Ellie said. "Only Eric wants me to play his girlfriend for his Mom and he'd pick you up. That is if you're up to sneaking out."

"Sneaking out," he licked his dry lips. "Sounds good, but what are we doing?"

"Its this concert. I think its an all age show. And Eric's got the tickets." She then told him.

"I'm liking Eric more already." Kyle nodded.

They were at the park then and they took to the swings. It was sunny out and Ellie couldn't remember the last time she was at the swings. Naturally, Kyle went higher and higher then he jumped through the air and rolled to the ground.

It was more of a dare she supposed, but she jumped too, although she didn't roll to the ground but she laid down next to him and looked at the few clouds in the sky.

"You know what I like best?" Kyle then said staring up at the sky.

"What?" She was sure he'd start a game with this too.

"Doing nothing with you." He smiled and Ellie smiled too.
