not exactly homework

Any moment the bell would ring and there Ellie was sitting on the steps of the high school looking through homework. She looked over and saw Cory actually speaking to the dark haired girl he'd wanted to make jealous.

Ellie smiled. She guessed she'd been totally wrong about the whole thing with Eric and Cory. Perhaps she was just a bad kisser to Cory. Of course, the only one she wanted to kiss at the moment was Kyle and he was grounded. No phone calls. No chats. She promised she wouldn't cry about it, but she did last night. Now she felt like such a baby about it. It would be over soon. It just didn't feel soon enough.

When she looked up, she saw Eric standing there at the bottom of the steps. He looked as if he was waiting to say something, but he couldn't. Finally, he spilled it when he sat down next to her.

"I was wondering if you could do something for me," he shrugged. "I don't want to use you, exactly. I just need a little favor."

"No kissing is involved is it?" Ellie looked at him then seriously.

"No, but if I could bring you over to see my Mom, I'd ever be so grateful if you told her you were my girlfriend."

"Me?" Ellie laughed. "Are you serious?"

"Yes, I'm very serious. She just won't give up. And if she thought you were my girlfriend, she'd stop annoying me about it. Besides, I have tickets to this local show that I'd like to see."

"What band is that?"

"The Black kids."

"OK," Ellie had never heard of them.

"I think you'd like their music." He told her.

"Really?"

"And it wouldn't be just us, Cory's bringing Amber." Eric chewed at his bottom lip.

"I see." She blinked, looking over at Cory and Amber. She looked back at Eric and noticed his longing look at Cory. "Sure why not."

"Thanks. If you want I could see if I could bail Kyle somehow, and he could come with us." He told her.

"You'd do that?" Ellie smiled.

"Yeah, I'd do that." He nodded.

Finally the bell rang. Just two more weeks of school.
