Ellie laid Rex's sweater on her bed and stared at it. He hadn't called. Not that she wanted him to call because if he did she wouldn't know what to say.
It was all a little blurry now. Everything. Even Eric. Was everything just going down the drain? Including herself.
She hated this. She hated what had happened. She hated how Kyle reacted, but she hated herself most.
Summer was only starting and she wished it was over. Already. Of course, she wasn't going anywhere. She'd be right here. She could see herself sitting right here on her bed staring at this old gray sweater all summer just waiting for Rex to call.
She got up then. Paced around her semi-clean room. Yes, it could be cleaner. It could be more something. Why couldn't she make herself do anything? She should paint her room a sea green or maybe melon. She should get busy. She didn't even want to crochet.
Ellie sat back down on her bed, put her hands across the sweater, as if that might be some sort of magic. Maybe if she touched the sweater, Rex would think of her.
Just then a tap came to her door. Her mother opened the door and saw the sweater on her yellow comforter.
"Whats this?" Her Mom asked.
"Its this old sweater that Eric doesn't want anymore." She lied again. She just had to stay away from the truth and Rex. Evidently. "I'm just not sure what to do with it." She picked up a sleeve.
"I see. So you really like this Eric fellow?"
"Yeah, remember that guy you almost ran over in the library parking lot that time?"
"Oh."
"Yeah, that's Eric." Ellie nodded. She just hoped the corner's of her lips weren't twitching.
"And to think it might have been me who had something to do with the two of you having a romance." Her mom smiled.
Ellie rolled her eyes, and then sighed. Finally her mom, walked out of her room and closed the door.
Ellie touched her lips then with her fingertips. She remember instantly how his lips felt on hers. It was shock then and even now. Eric had kissed her. She really wanted to forget that part when she was in his room. Yet she liked to remember what he'd said about Rex, "That bastard! he doesn't deserve you."
Ellie looked back at the sweater then, noticing the loose thread under the sleeve. It was time to dismantle this piece of Rex.
"It was time to dismantle this piece of Rex."
ReplyDeleteI love that line.
Interesting how she decided to include Eric in her lie instead of Kyle.
I wonder what color she'll paint her room.
About Tim . . . that thing with his girlfriend sort of reminds me of something that happened to me earlier this year . . . I might write about it soon. Haha.
ReplyDeleteA crocheted octopus? Very cool. I agree, though, those sorts of things are very tedious. They're only fun to start and finish. The in-between is murder. I wish I could crochet. I've tried but I just can't do it.
Um . . . when I was twelve I got blond streaks (I wanted blue), and then last June I got sick of them (I never liked them anyway) and dyed my hair back to its original black. Do you ever dye yours?

ReplyDeleteXOXO Buh-Laire :)
i know what it's like to wait for someone to call. But then I threw out my fantasy. I mean, the guy I liked obviously wasn't gonna call me to ask me out. he had a girlfriend. Like Eric had Anne and I had his bracelet he gave me. I thought it meant something until I met anne.
ReplyDeleteI love guys that wear sweaters. It's Rex's sweater, right? Well...I finally posted your survey! Thanks for the tag!
