Ellie tried not to panic, but this was freaking her out. It didn't seem possible. Was it a dream? Was it just Rex's twin and she'd find out his name of Dex and it would all be a good laugh. If only it could be a laugh, but it wasn't.

She stood there, waiting in the shadows of the room as he walked up to the porch and came up the steps. The door was open. The only thing separating them was the screen door. He politely knocked. Waited.

Ellie nursed her bottom lip. Aunt Maggie came back in the room and gave her a nudge. "Well?"

"Ellie? Ellie is that you?" He looked in through the screen.

She wanted to tell him it was a mistake. She didn't know any Ellie. She'd never heard of that name, but instead she pressed her lips together, tried to remain as calm as possible. She walked up to the screen then.

"What are you doing here?" She winced as she came out on the porch. Really, there was no need for him to come in. This needed to be over with quickly.

"I had to see you." He kept looking at her hair. At her. He then touched her arm. She flinched away.

"Why would you come all the way from Nebraska?" It felt like a foreign word to her. The place she came from.

"Because I knew there was no other way," he told her as she leaned against the fat wooden beam on the porch. "I talked to your mother. I told her about us."

"You what!" Ellie squinted hard hugging herself as she leaned against the other fat beam across from him. "You didn't." She shook her head, no.

"She said we should work it out." He nodded, remaining even lipped.

"Work it out? There is nothing to work out, Rex. There is nothing." She stared back at him, frustrated. "I don't want to be with you." A chill came over her. This didn't feel right.

"Why don't we take a drive," he offered. "You know, go somewhere, where we can be alone."

Ellie shook her head, no.

"I told you," she looked away first, but then looked back at him. "I told you not to call me, and that I didn't want to see you." She'd never been this mad before. It was a hot surge running through her veins. If he took one step closer, she might punch him.

"But you lied to me." He insisted.

"I lied to you?" This was a laugh, but it felt like poison in her mouth. "You didn't call. You-you, damn you,"

"Is this about-" Now, he looked sad.

"It wasn't even that good. None of it. None of you, and I don't care what you want. Because I don't want you. I don't. I never have." She felt like melting into tears. She could hardly hear herself think.

"You're just saying that because you're still mad. You don't think I cared, but I did. I really did," Rex reached for her again and she pulled away.

"This is so over, why can't you see that?" Ellie sighed. Didn't he get it? "I used you. You used me. You mean nothing to me." Ellie bit her bottom lip. "Sorry, but its true, and I can't change that, and neither can you."
