Ellie: Hey, sorry I didn't call already, but I got my learner's permit.
Lonnie: You didn't? Really, you sure your Dad is up for you being behind the wheel?
Ellie: Yeap, guess so.
Lonnie: Remember to make a complete stop.
Ellie: I will.
Lonnie: And everything is OK. You and Eric?
Ellie: Of course. You ready for school?
Lonnie: Not really. You know, same old, same old. I can't play football for the life of me. But basketball. Different story. Guess I'll do some cross country, but that'll be in the spring. I mean, here, its like a different world. I mean, you could be surrounded by the most stupid people in the world, but we'd never know it cause there is no one to compare to smartness or beauty for that matter. It a little warped here. You know, its sort of like you figure out, hey, I don't know the English language after all until you get in one of those district writing contest. Well, its a lot like that here with everything.
Ellie: You should go to a bigger school.
Lonnie: I might not stay out of trouble then. So whats it like living, you know, not with your Mom around.
Ellie: I would say it was freaky, but I've been actually living without her for a while.
Lonnie: It'll be even more freaky when you go and visit now.
Ellie: I doubt that happens.
Lonnie: It'll happen. Believe me, it'll happen.
Ellie: So do you ever see your Dad much?
Lonnie: No.
Ellie: Why not? You said he didn't live that far away. Don't your brothers and sisters go to your same school.
Lonnie: I guess. But I don't know them.
Ellie: That just sucks.
Lonnie: No it doesn't. I don't want to see them, anyway.
Ellie: Why not?
Lonnie: Because they look different than me. All blond and blue eyed.
Ellie: Sorry. Didn't mean-
Lonnie: Are you sure you didn't call me about anything else?
Ellie: No.
Lonnie: Good to hear from you.
Ellie: Will you call me?
Lonnie: I guess.
Ellie: You know, when school starts. Let me know, whats up.
Lonnie: So I can bore you, like I am right now?
Ellie: You are not boring me.
Lonnie: So you say. So you say. Try to behave yourself now.
Ellie: What? I'm behaving myself.
Lonnie: uhuh. Go right ahead and keep telling yourself that.
