the pick up

Kyle had just enough change for a large drink while he was waiting. His cash was going for the show. Hopefully, this wouldn't be a dud. He was early so he could lounge at a booth waiting for Derrick and his sister to show at Burger King.

And then he saw her. He knew he would be obsessing over her before she even got out of the car.

"This is Amanda." Derrick introduced Kyle to his sister.

Kyle just gave her a nod and looked at her thick chestnut hair pulled back in pony-tail. She had those big brown eyes like Derrick's with a heart shaped face, and there was a softness about her that he so wanted to touch, but Kyle managed to stay indifferent.

Naturally, Derrick was all chatty about the band they were seeing. He was going on how Kyle should come over and they'd play some music together.

"Do you play the drums?"

"Sixth grade band." He hadn't played since because he really thought they'd only wanted him there to haul everyone's stuff out on the floor then load it back up in the band room. All those lazy bastards back then, it really had affected his out look on the drums, and the bad feeling he'd beat out some Asian girl who gave him the third degree. She'd had tons of lessons on the keyboard, and he still beat her out. What had given him the right to be in the prestige drum club? He felt awful about that because he'd really been crushing on her for so long and then to make her so evil over the matter. Frankly, Kyle didn't think he deserved to play the drums.

"You can play my brother's set. He's in college and hasn't played since high school. We could have us a real band." Derrick was impressed.

Kyle kind of laughed then sucked on his drink. They were on their way to the show. He walked behind Amanda. Really, she definitely had some curves worth noticing in her black form fitting outfit, and Kyle could appreciate that from afar.
