hard to tell

Kyle fidgeted a little sitting there in the room while Amanda had to lay down and be felt up, so to speak. Asking her questions. Questions that had nothing to do with pregnancy. It reached far more than do you smoke tobacco products. Have you thought of suicide, lately? Do your parents own a gun?

And then the doctor looked over at Kyle.

"Well, who's your friend here?" He took a long look at him. "Kyle?"

Kyle froze.

"You know who I am?" He smiled. "Your Mom used to work at my office."

Kyle knew his Mom knew a lot of doctors over the years. Dr. Foster just didn't ring any bells. Then he looked back at Amanda. Did he get the connection yet? Kyle wondered.

"In fact I delivered that little rascal." He kept grinning in his own little world. Amanda smiled back, sort of. "Yeap, I remember to because I'd asked his mother if she had anything lined up after she had him. What a small world."

It was a small world all right. It was quiet then.

At least he gave them an idea of a due date being in mid August. But he wanted to do a sonogram to be sure. Kyle was sure they'd have to make an appoint for that, but they didn't. There was a room free at the moment. Wouldn't take more than a few minutes.

Kyle was tempted to call his mother, but he didn't. Dr. Foster sent them on to see the nurses. They got Amanda situated. So he held her hand, and they both watched as if they were watching for perhaps a seahorse to pop-out from behind a clump of seaweed. There it was. Just doing its thing.

Amanda said right away that she didn't want to know if it were a boy or a girl. Good news, Kyle supposed everything was right on schedule. He didn't give any second thoughts about wanting to know the gender.

"You're gonna have that third trimester out of the way in early February." Dr. Foster mentioned as they were sat to go. Of course, he gave her some more forms for blood tests. Standard procedure to find out how the blood sugar was doing. Then there were pamphlets on diet and exercise. It was by the book.

"Do you think he felt sorry for us?" Amanda asked when they got to her car.

"I dunno. He sees all types." Kyle shrugged.

"I bet it was shock for him. Seeing you." She sighed, almost smiling.

"Its not like he's gonna call my Mom up and tell her, you know."

"Yeah, I know." She nodded.

"Too bad, Dan didn't show." Kyle looked at Amanda. He wasn't so sure he wanted his kid staying at Amanda's.

  3. Interesting about Dr. Foster and I felt a little sad when she said that line about "feeling sorry for us.."

  4. It seems weird to think of Kyle & Amanda having a baby.

Somehow I think of him as being so . . . young. And still with Ellie, in a way, I guess.

I'm glad Kyle seems to be mature enough for a child.
