the last stand

Cory plopped himself down on the couch at Roger's to finish off the last of the strawberry short cake when he saw more prom tickets next to him.

"What's this? Who are you inviting to this thing?" He looked at Roger as if he'd been up to stuff he wasn't telling him.

"I'm just helping out the school a little bit." He was setting up the electric guitars. They'd had enough video games for a bit. It was time for some real fun. At least Roger's Dad would be fussing at them that they were playing too many video games. "I got tickets for Kyle and Amanda."

"Who's the other one for?" Cory licked the cool whip off his spoon.

"Ryan."

Cory shot him a look then that he better be kidding.

"Come on, you knew he was coming." Roger laughed it off.

"We have to babysit the dude the whole weekend?" Cory winced. "You know how he gets. He makes you a nervous wreck. I can't believe you invited him here."

"It'll be fine. He's better now. He doesn't drive people away, like he used to." Roger told him.

"Oh, really, didn't he sneak into some girl's house once and stayed in her closet like all night?"

"That was completely exaggerated. He just wanted you to believe that." Roger shrugged.

"Doesn't he say anything on his mind, like, like wanna hold my weiner, and junk like that." Cory remembered.

"No."

"Well, the Ryan I know can make people go running for the hills. He's obnoxious." Cory informed him.

"He's not that bad." Roger shook his head.

"And does he even know about us?" Cory squinted then. "Isn't he a little homophobic?"

Roger just sighed.

"You didn't tell him, did you?" Cory rolled his eyes then and finished off his cake.

"I didn't see the need to tell him."

"Well, you have too." Cory got up to go put his dish away.

"I know." Roger shrugged. "That's why I need Ellie to distract him."

"Ellie?" Cory winced. "Are you out of your mind?"

"We'll he's been crazy about her since forever, you know."

"And she can't stand him. Remember?" He played around with Roger a bit on the couch as if they were pups that needed to play fight.

"I haven't forgotten that," Roger just laughed. "She could put him through pure torture, and he wouldn't even notice."

"Yeah, I'd hoped he was over her by now. I don't think she'll want to see him. She's got Elliot."

"Elliot," Roger winced then laughed. "God, I wish he wasn't so cute."

"That's it! You're getting the yoggies! For good this time!" Cory had Roger in the floor then, jabbing his chest with his fingers.
