Olivia adored the fact that Eric listened to her so intently. Of course, half the time she knew people were looking at him as if he was her personal interpreter and no one really knew what she was saying. He was so much fun to watch his expression evolve.
Naturally, the dinner at home with her mother and father had been a little unsteady. But she thought if they had a couple of more, it would become easier. Her Dad had to ask him a ton of questions about his future.
1. No Eric wasn't going into the military.
2. He was thinking about becoming a teacher.
3. He would have to go to college from home.
"Well, I like him," her father admitted afterwards. after Eric left. It was just the two of them in the livingroom while her mother was cleaning up. "I think you've trained well."
She couldn't help but smile. She stared back at her Dad, who her mother said had Gary Cooper's eyes. There was such a sincerity about him. She couldn't help but notice.
"Really, I had nothing to do with that." She rolled her eyes.
"He'll be in college soon and well, boys that age expect something." He sighed as if she needed to fill in the blank.
"He's not a boy." She made a face then that she didn't like the idea of her father, saying that about Eric.
"Precisely." Her Dad nodded. "Just don't let him hurt you."
"Hurt me?" She scowled a bit at the thought that he'd be some sort of Rambo dude carrying her off into the woods or a vampire trying to woo her back to his lair.
"I want you to be careful."
"I am." She gave him a serious look. "I'm not a baby."
"I know. You're seventeen and remember you plan on a major in signing so you can help people." Her father looked at her as if he wanted to protect her as long as he could.
"What does that have to do with Eric?" She winced. Her father would have to poo on her whole idea of a romance.
"I don't want you to be so wrapped up in him that you forget what your purpose is. Simple as that." And he gave her a hug then.
It was hard being a preacher's daughter. Even more so with all the little disabilities hanging over her.
