maybe

"Maybe we could meet." Eric thought he heard Cory say over his cell. He was doing some winter cleaning because he was bored. Actually.

"You and me?" He squinted as if it would be weird. He was trying to toss out stuff he never wore. Then he came across all the hats Ellie had ever crocheted for him and everything had stopped. How could he part with any of those? There was the primary colored one that was really quite clown like, and the gray one, the brown one with the ear flaps and even a golden one that looked like a jester's hat.

"Its not a date." Cory told him.

"Oh. Sorry. No, I didn't think of it that way. You know, if you want Demetri to come along, I'd be fine with it." Eric shrugged as he sat down in his sentimental mess on the futon.

"No, I think it would be good if you and I hung out, you know. Like old times," Cory said.

Eric frowned. He didn't want any old times. He didn't know what he wanted. He thought he knew, but what if he was all wrong about Syd? But he just couldn't forget about her.

"Sure." Eric sighed.

"Are you, sure?" Cory asked.

"Of course." Eric guessed he'd have to be. He knew of a pool hall nearby. It wasn't for low-lives. He didn't think. It would be something mutual. They could get pizza. He had to wonder what they had to talk about. He couldn't think what they could talk about, anymore.
