Really, Kyle didn't know why he had to have a senior ring. He'd never wear it. He was sitting in the living-room looking at it while the 10 o'clock news was on.
"I know what you could do with it," his mother said.
"Oh yeah, what?" He could see Rosie laughing at it, one day. Talking about how fat her father's fingers were.
Naturally, his Mom walked away instead of telling him. Kyle just sighed as if he'd put it in a drawer to keep it there. Nobody, got senior rings anymore. OK, some kids did, but not like when his Mom went to school. She was just crazy about him getting a senior ring.
She brought him a nice gold chain. She then put the ring on it.
"Any ideas now?" She shrugged.
Kyle just stared at it. Then looked at her.
"Amber?" She smiled.
"Oh." He said as if he had to say it. Then it finally donned on him."OH." He smiled. "Nice one, Mom." Now he felt like an idiot that he hadn't thought of it sooner. "Should I wait til Valentines day?"
"No, I would do it right now, if I felt like it." She told him. "I mean, if you feel like doing it, but if you don't, then don't."
Kyle nodded. She was right.
"I feel like doing it." He smiled then. "Thanks, Mom."
She gave him a kiss on the cheek. She hadn't done that in a long time.
That was sweet of his Mom.
