sinking in

Thank God, Kami knew what she was doing.

Ian was pretty sure Eric wouldn't let him around the baby if it hadn't been for Kami. Ian just watched as if he had a lot to learn.

First of all, he had no idea how to hold a baby.

"If I can do it, I'm pretty sure you can do it." Eric's last words to him before Eric took Syd out on a date.

Actually, Ian felt safer watching Kami with the baby. Funny, how he was more in love with Kami now, than ever. Just because of a baby. He'd even shocked himself. Perhaps having his Dad back, helped too. It was so exciting to have a family. A real family. Together. None of this, "You should visit your Mom, Ian."

Those days were so over. He hated to admit that he was glad to get away from her because she had not changed. She hadn't tried,  even  if she promised Dad that she would. When she started drinking so much, his Dad said he didn't have to visit anymore. So he hadn't.

But their was a twinge of guilt. He didn't want to feel that. But he knew there was a time, he'd been a tiny infant just like Evan. And his parents made over him like Eric and Syd were excited about every little thing Evan did. Even a fart.

Really, Ian felt he'd just begun. It was amazing to feel a part of this.

"Well, aren't you going to hold him?" Kami finally handed Evan over, after he was fed and burped.

"I dunno." Ian was all grins. He wasn't even sure why. "Its kind of scary, you know."

"Yeah, I know, but you can do it. You can. You will. You're an uncle now. You have to." Kami informed him.

"Sure." Ian was still in aw that he could be Uncle Ian and most of all, Eric being a Dad.

Evan stretched with a sleepy yawn in Ian's arms. This joy was alive and so trusting. Ian couldn't help but smile. But there was so much pressure.

"He's amazing." Ian told Kami but he gave Evan right back to her. This holding stuff made him nervous. This would take some time. He was sure Kami had a lot to teach him. He did want to be a good Dad some time in the future, but definitely, not anytime soon.
