a bitter chill

                                                         We ♥ It

"I wish you'd say something." Lon didn't know where this was going. Yes, he'd spilled his guts about what he thought might have happened with Ellie's cousin, years ago. But really, he didn't know anything for sure. It was baffling.

"What do you want me say?" Ellie had already brought back Charlie. Now there was no time to really talk. Especially, an argument. She couldn't yell at him now, and he really wanted her to. Why had she gone and gotten Charlie, already? They were suppose to have the whole weekend to themselves. He'd hope they could have gone out to dinner or a movie. Even thrifting.

"Look, I'm sorry. You know that. I just-" There went Charlie again, on top of the coffee table ready to jump off. Lon went to reprimand him and picked him up, just to have Charlie want to get down so he could run away, again.

"Its fine." Ellie had no expression on her face. She looked a bit washed up or something. Lon couldn't quite place it.

"What should I do?" He winced as she went to do something in the kitchen.

"What ever you want to do." Her voice was so dull. It made him feel all the more bad. He was so mad at himself.

That was not the answer he was looking for. What he really wanted to do was for her to call her cousin. Well, that would be ridiculous for her to do this for him, but he didn't want to do it. A part of him wanted to leave this alone. He wished he hadn't said anything. But it would be horrifying for family services to track him down as a dead beat Dad of some kind.

This was making him sick. The thought he might be someone's father who would never know him. He went to get a book to read to Charlie. He needed for him to settle down. Perhaps, Lon needed to settle down. Maybe Ellie needed to settle down.

Just then he smelled something burning in the kitchen. He went to check it out. Something had spilled over on the stove. Lon watched Ellie clean it up. He knew she was mad. She was really pissed with him. He just knew it, but he didn't try to clean up the spaggatti sauce for her. He had Charlie to handle.

  6. I guess I am a little confused. Is your blog a lot of short stories? Did you write these? It's quite interesting but I wish I knew the background behind it all.
