Ian knew he knew him from somewhere, but couldn't place Doyle when he came into the library. Ian noticed how Kayla talked to him as if she was going to be the sexiest librarian he'd ever met. Ian rolled his eyes at that. Then when Kayla came over and told him that Doyle was looking for him, Ian just stared at him, wondering what it could be about.
"I just thought, maybe you'd want to come along. You know, the concert. It'll be here soon. Its the last one before the tour is over."
"They're calling it a tour?" Ian laughed. Actually, he was shocked that Roger and the band were doing that well.
"I guess. Well, believe me, what I hear from Roger, its a tour all right. They've gone to fairs and festivals. Some have been better than others, but they've met a lot of people too. Anyway, I thought we could all get-together and make a night of it." Doyle smiled.
"Sure, count me in." Ian felt he was in a slump, anyway. Tori had gone off to live with an Aunt back East. Her family said, anyway. Maybe she was in rehab or something. It wasn't like they were serious or anything. Kind of friends, Ian guessed. But with Tori not around, all he had lately were video games to play. What a rotten summer it had been.
He noticed Kayla still there as if she were trying to worm her way into the conversation.
"I want to come." She suddenly invited herself.
Ian gave her a glare. He hadn't expected that. Of course, Doyle was OK with it. After he left, Ian just glared at her. "What are you trying to do?"
"I dunno. Its been a while since I've ...gone out, I guess." She just smiled.
"Doyle's gay. His boyfriend is in the band." Ian hoped he burst her bubble. He could hardly stand all that happiness suddenly oozing from her. She'd been a bitch most of the summer with him. He walked away, a bit restless. Really, she was the last person he wanted tagging along to the concert.
They are just not getting along, are they?
ReplyDeleteOh boy, what has gotten in to Kayla?
ReplyDeleteIt sucks to not get along with coworkers. It might help for them to spend time together outside of work. Then again, maybe not.
ReplyDeleteIts never easy with co-workers. Especially, if you might have special feelings for them.
ReplyDeleteCoworkers are always a challenge, it seems. :/
ReplyDeleteI don't like Kayla. One bit, but I think she's still important to the story. I know you have something cooked up for her.
ReplyDeleteDon't like Kayla, either. How disagreeable...
ReplyDeleteI really think Kayla does care about Ian..only, he just can't see it that way. We probably all know people who are only seeing their own world and nobody else's, unfortunately.
