"Well, if nothing happened, what are you worried about?" Kayla wanted to know what was going with Ian and Amy. She knew Tori would be trouble. She'd told Ian to stay away from her.
At least he was back where she wanted him to be. Yes, she'd missed him. All summer long she kept avoiding him like the plague. Possibly. She didn't mean too. It hadn't panned out with her e-mail pal from the peace corp. When he got back from China, they were just incompatible. She couldn't even kiss him. It was awful with Ethan. Ian was all she had. Seriously. She didn't want to have these feelings for him, but those feelings were very well there. And she had to accept that. They could be friends. No benefits. Just friends. She didn't need a boyfriend, right now. And, and how long had it been since anyone? She didn't want to think about her on again off again happenings with someone she'd worked with. But that was really over. The young adult librarian had a girlfriend and a boyfriend and some really old professor, too.
Would it really be awful to want to keep company with Ian? They were really good together. He made her laugh. And it was good. In fact, sweet.
And here they were going to a concert.
"You sure, you don't mind." Kayla was driving. She just thought it would be weird to let a 16 year old drive and yet, well, they had kissed. Which she thought she'd forgotten about, but she couldn't help but think about it now.
"I don't care." Ian was being a little too nonchalant about this as he got in the car with her to go.
"You didn't even like her, did you?" Kayla wanted to know if anything had happened with him and Tori. "She's crazy, you know."
"I know." Ian looked so indifferent now. Kayla felt so sad. She wanted Ian to really like her, again. Was that possible? "You know, you aren't going to get lucky with Doyle. He's got a boyfriend." Ian told her as she made her way on the freeway to downtown.
"Oh," Kayla shrugged. She didn't even remember what the guy looked like who had even told them about the concert. She doubt she'd know him if she saw him.
