all so soon

It felt like a reunion of sorts. Syd's mother arrived and ended up staying with Eric's parents. She had lots of catching up to do with her old friend, Alice, AKA, Eric's Mom.

Of course, Syd felt close to her mother. But what was once, once a week calls had now turned into everyday calls. Her mother would ask how she felt. If the baby kicked. Was she really in love? Questions. Questions. So it was a relief when her Mom had Alice to confide in. Still they both nagged a bit. Why had she waited so long for the wedding. She hardly looked like a bride in the simple maternity dress she wore.

True, she remembered how her mother had dreamed up the white wedding dress she'd wear long before there  was ever a groom. She really hadn't meant to hurt her mother this way. But it was too late to apologize now. And so many showed up at the courthouse. People she worked with. People Eric knew through classes and work.

She looked at Eric as the wedding was about to start. Syd was thinking they should have really had a church wedding somewhere. Possibly months ago, but she didn't think Eric ever went church, and she could hardly remember going herself. But his sister was there and so was Ian. Syd just smiled as the wedding proceeded. She looked back then to see Roger, crying so. Syd just smiled. That was the last person she expected to be crying at her wedding.
