hanging on

"Do you really think Eric and Syd have thought this through?" Doyle knew it wasn't his problem, but they'd have 2 babies in the house, soon. Did this not bother anyone but him?

"What do you mean?" Roger looked at him while they were making their bed. True, Roger cleaned up more around his room than he used too. Doyle knew how he could let things go, but he'd been so happy to be back home after the rock'n roll roadtrip that he pretty much did whatever Doyle asked of him. Doyle liked that he was picking up after himself now. It would be just about perfect if it weren't so crowded around here.

"You know exactly what I mean." Doyle glared.

"They can easily fit 2 babies in that nursery. There's already a second crib in there. Actually." Roger winced.

"OK." He guessed it didn't matter. But he felt a little hurt that they weren't on their own. Yet, Roger hadn't asked a dime from him. So he knew he shouldn't be so selfish about this. But really, was it too much to ask to be alone with him? "Look, I have a weekend free coming up. We should do something."

"Like what?" Roger gave him a serious look then. "Not camping, is it?"

"No." He knew Roger enough to know he was not into camping. "We need to have some fun. Together. Like Kansas City, you know." There was shopping, an amusement park and a water park. A definite time to take before it shut down for winter.

"Yeah, of course." Roger sighed as if they might be splitting up. Doyle pulled Roger in. He looked at the bed all neat. He guessed they'd just have to mess it up, again. He kissed Roger to let him know things really hadn't changed at all between them. He guessed he would just have to get used to babies and the rest of the household noises. It was home. His home. Their home. And it was time to savor every inch of it.
