on a snowy day

"I'm not dissing the cops, but God, it seems to take them forever to do anything." Kyle kicked the snow tire on Lon's pick up truck. They'd came over in the late afternoon to see if they could help with anything at Amanda's. He'd never seen her quite this upset.

When they got there, they found Rosie in the kitchen with Ian and Derrick making pizza. She was fighting with the pizza dough. He really wondered what she exactly knew. Derrick chopped up vegetables and Ian handed her a piece of broccoli which she snarled her nose up at. "Its a tree." She informed him. At least, she wasn't upset. Unlike Amanda who kept to herself at the livingroom window. Looking out as if Elliot would somehow find his way back. That's when she told him how she'd tried her best to take out after him. But she couldn't find his car anywhere.

"Well, he's still warm if he's in it." Kyle told her. Hopefully, he had enough sense to stay in the car. He thought of the couple who were on meth who called from their cell for help, but they made no sense and ended up freezing to death in a corn field.

"He didn't take his phone." She hugged herself. "But would you look for him. Could you?"

Thats when he and Lon decided to go looking for him. Of course, she wanted to go, but she had a cough and sounded like she might be coming down with something. He finally got her to help them in the kitchen. He thought it might be best if she stayed here.

So here they were in Lon's pick up truck. The interstate was fine coming in. It was the neighborhood streets that were bad. And the farm roads were even worse.

They'd decided they'd stay close by. As it was, there had been no report of any car like Elliot's in an accident. Of course, there were no people out. No telling how far he'd gone.

"What if he's all the way to Missouri now?" Lon drove out toward the soccer fields. Out past that was an old bridge across a creek that was more vegetation than anything else, down below. No one had driven down that way.

"I'm thinking we should look there." Kyle told him as they drove on toward the old bridge.

"But there's nothing to see. Except trees." Lon didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Snow covered and an simple icy bridge. This was a place you took nature walks.

"Yeah, but what's under the trees?" They were going to have to get out and look.
