he would never marry
He held Ellie's baby careful. He couldn't help but admire the tender infant and everything that went with it. As it was, he was here with Rosie who was playing blocks with Charlie. Roger kept smiling at baby Zoe as if it were some gut reaction to send out as much positive energy as he could. It was on the tip of his tongue..I want one.
But Ellie had her mind elsewhere. The attic, that Lon was determined to fix up for his daughter Hannah.
"Well, that's just crazy." Roger looked up at Ellie as if he'd be her number one cheerleader, always on Ellie's side. He was ready to start a LETS HATE LON LOVE club.
"I don't mean to bitch about it." She wasn't exactly in a huff, yet again, he couldn't remember when he'd heard his friend even imagine the word bitch.
"He really needs to rethink this. Let this, with Hannah run its course. I bet she'll be back with her Mom by summer." Roger thought that was the perfect thing to say. He was still eying the sleeping baby. He wasn't talking too loud because he wouldn't dare wake the baby.
"That's what I said." Ellie was unloading the dishwasher. She went to check on the kids in the livingroom. Finally, the kids came to the kitchen table so they could have some watered down juice and cheerios.
"So how does Lon feel about Zoe?" He wanted to know.
"Great." Ellie smiled. "He's great with her."
He would, thought Roger. Yes, he still wasn't sold on Lon. Deep down in this dream that never went completely away...Some day, Lon would leave her, high and dry..and who would pick up the pieces? Well, Roger would. Of course.
